Feeding a Puppy

Feeding a Puppy

The first 2 to 3 weeks, pups receive exclusively milk from the bitch. Milk production increases parallel to the requirements of the pups. At the third week, milk production stagnates while the requirements of the pups further increase, necessitating the feeding of solid food. Best is to start with solid food at the end of the second week.

Food Allergy

Food allergies which could affect dogs and cats are a common term for allergic reactions against pet foods. This reaction is not related to a specific age, sex or breed. Food allergies, after insect bites and respiratory allergies, are the third most common form of allergic reaction in dogs. Studies show food allergies is a “true allergy” which shows the characteristic symptoms associated with a canine and feline allergy that could be different from food intolerance showing symptoms such as vomiting or diarrhoea.

Food allergies can cause skin problems.  Most often, food allergies are associated with a non-seasonal, chronic skin irritation and itching.  In contrast to common belief, it is important to know that skin problems caused by food allergies are rather rare.

Premium and Super Premium Pet Foods: Better Value for Money?

Dog food and cat food quality is one of the most important factors in maintaining a healthy lifestyle for a pet. One of the most important concerns for a pet owner is to find the right pet food product that contains all the essential needs of a pet. High quality cat or dog foods are always formulated to find the optimal nutritional balance and contain nutraceutical components to help maintain the health and condition of a pet. On the other hand, cheap or “standard” cat or dog food contains only the basic nutritional requirements. High quality pet food is generally labelled as Premium or Super Premium. These super premium pet foods contain more energy as well as a higher digestibility rate, the amount that actually needs to be fed to the cats or dogs is, in general, 10 to 20% less than with standard cat or dog food.
